Job Purpose
The Superintendent, Geology is responsible for managing day-to-day geological operations at site, ensuring accurate grade control, ore delineation, and geological interpretation to support safe and efficient mining.
The role ensures operational discipline in geological processes, including drilling, sampling, mapping, dig polygon generation, and ore spotting, while maintaining alignment with Mineral Resource models and corporate geological standards. The position acts as the key operational link between geology, mine planning, and production teams.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Geology Management
• Lead and supervise site geology teams responsible for grade control, ore delineation, and geological mapping.
• Ensure accurate and timely generation of dig polygons to guide mining activities.
• Monitor ore loss and dilution and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Support internal and external audits as part of the governance framework.
Grade Control & Ore Delineation
• Manage grade control drilling programs and sampling campaigns.
• Ensure geological interpretations and grade boundaries are correctly defined.
• Validate geological data before release to mining and planning teams.
Operational Discipline & Process Execution
• Ensure geological procedures and operational standards are consistently applied in the field.
• Maintain strong field presence to support geologists and ensure quality of execution.
• Drive continuous improvement in geology workflows and operational efficiency.
Mine–Geology Integration
• Work closely with mine planning and operations teams to align geological interpretation with mining plans.
• Support blending strategies and ore control to maintain stable plant feed.
• Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly production meetings.
Data Quality & Reporting
• Ensure geological data collection follows established QA/QC protocols.
• Coordinate with the Database Management team to maintain accurate and reliable datasets.
• Provide timely geological reporting to support reconciliation and operational decision-making.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Promote a strong safety culture within the geology team.
• Ensure geological activities comply with site safety standards and operational procedures.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Strong experience in grade control and orebody interpretation.
Experience in both open-pit and underground operations is advantageous.
Experience managing geology teams in active mining environments.
Minimum Experience:
8–12 years’ experience in operational mine geology, including open pit and underground.
Skills:
• Operational geology and grade control expertise
• Strong leadership and field supervision capability
• Ability to manage geological risk and dilution control
• Strong coordination with mining and processing teams
• Clear communication and reporting skills.
