JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Superintendent, Workshop E&I is responsible for managing all E&I related operations mainly related to workshops, whether for rigs or vessels or other internal work in the yard.
The Senior Superintendent supervises all related system activities in the workshop and occasionally and/or onboard and ensures that related works are carried out safely, on time and on budget in accordance with the project contractual obligations and International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).
The role involves working closely with the E&I Manager, other E&I Senior Superintendents, and Superintendents, Supervisors, rewinding personnel, lab technician, Project Managers, QC, Safety and the Production teams or other internal departments as required to ensure that all assigned scopes are executed as described above.
Ensures efficiency and proper housekeeping in workshop and/or onboard and when required prepares budgets/cost estimates for production/projects.
Solution orientation and doing it right the first-time mindset is a must, with a proactive approach to solving issues before they become problems.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure all work activities are carried out in strict compliance with IMI Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and the International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).
- Ensure that all E&l activities are meticulously planned, and that the plans and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by all relevant E&I workshop personnel.
- Develop comprehensive project/production plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of E&I works on vessels, and rigs.
- Ensure all repair and maintenance work meet the required quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage workshop E&I repair teams, rewinding repair teams, lab technicians, including tradesmen, and subcontractors.
- Oversee all workshop activities such as overhauling and rewinding of electrical motors and generators.
- Prepare processes, work instructions, and TRA's related to the workshop activities.
- Implement safety procedures including housekeeping on the shop floor with the action plan.
- Oversee the workshop activities with respect to the deliverables meeting the required project standard requirements and specifications.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the workshop processes such as dismantling, repair assessment/condition reports, repair methodology, final assembly calibration and testing process.
- Oversee the Rewinding process and requirements.
- Apply expertise in Overhauling and Rewinding of Explosion Proof Motors and their requirements.
- Implement strategies for overhauling HV / MV/ LV Motors and alternators up to 11 KV.
- Apply knowledge of the rotor/ impeller dynamic balancing requirements and their permissible tolerance limit.
- Identify repairs in concurrence with the client requirements and necessitate action plan.
- Carry out the standard requirements for overhauling DC Motors.
- Understand the preliminary requirements for the rewinding of AC/ DC Motors and Alternators.
- Familiar with the required Standard Equipment / Tools used during the Overhauling and Rewinding process.
- Troubleshoot / rectify faults during overhauling and testing progress in the workshop prior delivery onboard.
- Control the overtime to contribute to the best projects and gross margins. Manhours monitoring against commercial estimation.
- Ensure that all production/project materials are used as defined in procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations and the repairs are carried out in accordance with the approved procedures.
- Strong involvement in daily/weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress.
- Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and/or change of scope.
- Provide information to Planning Department to prepare a weekly workload forecast based on materials, equipment and manpower availability.
- Visit regularly the workshop, onboard, in docks, or other open areas where related activities are taking place to check progress and give technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping.
- Assist E&I Manager in preparing department budgets and make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization and CAPEX, OPEX, and the manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency.
- Facilitate training and development of personnel.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement in E&I workshops. Implement best practices, new technologies, and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement and increase productivity.
- Assist E&I Manager in developing productivity norms related to E&I works and measure the actual performance vs norms for the sake of continuous productivity improvement by setting the new improved targets every time. Perform other related duties as per management direction.
Education: Bachelor Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 12 years of experience in shipyard/ship repair/Offshore.
