Audiologist

Job Summary

As an autonomous practitioner and key multi-disciplinary team member, they will provide specialized, holistic assessment and goal orientated treatment through a patient centred model of care. Utilizing a broad range of assessment and treatment techniques, they will effectively promote health and well-being and maximize functional recovery, using both a restorative and preventative approach to patient care.

They will provide high quality Audiology services across the following key service areas:

• Neurology and Neurosurgery

• ENT (including Oncology)

• Adults

• Paediatrics

• Neonates

• Inpatients and outpatient settings

Job Responsibilities 1

Provides specialist, critically reasoned and holistic, Audiology assessments, for inpatients and outpatients, referred with varying complexities of presentations, encompassing physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects.

Provides audiological diagnostic support to ENT clinics for adults and children (which may include puretone audiometry, tympanometry, Speech Audiometry, OAEs (Otoacoustic emissions) and ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) as required as required), establishing a full and accurate test response.

Provides vestibular assessment to support ENT clinic for adults and children (Which may include positional nystagmus tests and Canalith repositioning manoeuvre, VNG (Videonystagmography), VHIT (Video Head Impulse test) establishing a full and accurate test response.

Provides neonatal hearing screening and follows up test to support neonatologist.

Provides hearing screening for the part of executive health check-up programme.

Provides analysis, assessment, and interpretation of a broad spectrum of adult diagnostic and rehabilitation, and some paediatric test results.

Job Responsibilities 2

Provides goal orientated, evidence based and clinically reasoned treatment plans/ recommendations alone and in conjunction with an integrated team of physicians, nurses, and other Allied Health Professionals (as applicable) in relation to clinical scope of practice.

Identifies, recommends, prescribes, and implements suitable assistive hearing devices (in accordance with relevant policy) to support communication needs, engaging colleagues and family where applicable in their use.

Participates in diagnosis related clinics such as (but not limited to) Cochlear implant, Tinnitus and balance rehabilitation (as applicable), and takes an active role in patient management as required.

Takes an active role within the development of the Audiology service, participating in In-Service Training, facilitating the training and development of all staff, by sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

Provides effective and safe patient (and family) education to assist in management and rehabilitation of hearing and communication difficulties, in line with evidence-based practice.

Advocates the benefits of Audiology and assistive hearing devices where necessary, using clinical reasoning, evidence practice examples, recognised international guidelines/care standards within the team and wider organisation.

Manages own time and caseload with an awareness of limitation of the Audiology service and a knowledge of specialist facilities and appropriate referral.

Job Knowledge & Skills

Accurate and precise hearing testing using a variety of techniques for children and adults.

Ability to report and discuss findings with referring physicians to aid in accurate and timely diagnosis/treatment.

Taking earmold impressions.

Fitting and fine tuning of digital hearing aids.

Equipment Calibration.

Dexterity, hand eye co-ordination and sensory skills for adjustment of earmolds and hearing devices.

Manipulation of materials requiring a high degree of precision.

Evidence of appropriate continued professional development.

Proficiency in the administration of standardized outcome measure testing applicable to area of work.

Expertise in the application of evidence-based practice.

Understanding of robust documentation practices and the use of an EMR.

Previous experience working in a multi -disciplinary care team.

Ability to work without supervision in the diagnostic and rehabilitation areas

Job Experience

Overseas candidates: Two (2) years clinical experience as an Audiology Technologist.

For Qatari Nationals, Qatar Universities graduates, offspring of Qatari women or offspring of residents, they are required to complete a training period of one year under supervision of a licensed healthcare practitioner (Refer to DHP Circular No.24/2020).
