Summary:
As a Database Administrator, a typical day involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust database systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The role includes installing database management systems and developing comprehensive procedures to support daily maintenance activities and resolve any issues that arise. This position requires continuous monitoring and fine-tuning of databases to meet organizational needs, while also collaborating with various teams to support seamless data operations and uphold data integrity across the enterprise.
Your responsibilities:
Design, implementation, and day to day management of SQL Server environments deployed on virtual machines, including high availability (HA) architectures.
Manage MS SQL on-premises, including Windows Failover Cluster and Availability Groups.
Manage MS SQL in both Azure and GCP, including native tools like Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance or Google Compute.
Ownership of core operational areas such as backup strategies, backup monitoring, performance and availability monitoring, and security hardening.
Execution of SQL Server migrations, version upgrades, and patching activities with minimal downtime and risk.
Be part of the vulnerability management support group, including deployment of CIS baselines for MS SQL and providing technical support to security teams operating compliance tools like Rapid7/CNAPP and others.
Responsibility for the full SQL Server product lifecycle, from initial design and deployment through ongoing maintenance and decommissioning.
Your profile:
University degree in Information Technology or comparable experience in IT business with at least 5 years of experience in operations of MS SQL Servers in enterprise environments (more than 500 servers).
Technical skills in these areas:
MS SQL HA solutions design on-premises, Azure and GCP
Microsoft failover clustering with SAN storage and Always-On Availability Groups
Perfect orientation within the Windows Server operating system environment, including security, networking, storage, and others
General knowledge in Azure and GCP IaaS and PaaS
Strong scripting skills – TSQL, PowerShell, Terraform with a clear preference for automation
Experience with Vulnerability Management Processes and Risk Management.
Independent and structured working approach, good coordination skills, and ability to work independently.
Ability to align customer requirements with industry best practices, with the confidence and motivation to advocate for and clearly justify the optimal solution.
Fluent in both written and spoken English. Additional languages (German, French) will be an asset.
Experience with CheckMK monitoring solution will be an asset.
