BI Analytics Engineer (Karachi, Hybrid, PKR Salary)

We're hiring Analytics Engineer / BI Engineer – Reporting & Data Platform (Karachi - Hybrid)

Client company introduction: The company is a growing consultancy specializing in data analytics, providing high-quality, impactful data solutions to clients based in the UK.

Role overview:

We are seeking an experienced Analytics Engineer / BI Engineer to support the design, stabilisation and improvement of reporting and analytics environments across company's client base. 

The role will focus on assessing existing reporting setups (SQL, Excel and Power BI), improving data models and performance, and helping build scalable reporting layers for modern data platforms. 

This is a hands-on delivery role combined with technical guidance and stakeholder collaboration, working closely with business users and senior engineers to translate reporting requirements into robust analytics solutions.

Core technical skills required:

SQL & Data Modelling:

• Strong hands-on SQL experience (query writing, optimisation, joins, window functions)
• Experience working with SQL Server or similar relational databases 
• Understanding of data modelling concepts including fact/dimension structures 
• Ability to analyse and improve poorly structured or legacy reporting databases 

Power BI & Reporting:

• Experience building Power BI dashboards and semantic models 
• Strong understanding of Power BI data models and relationships 
• Experience writing and optimising DAX measures 
• Ability to diagnose and resolve slow or inefficient reports 

Excel & Financial Reporting:

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including complex formulas and large workbooks
• Experience working with Power Pivot and Excel data models
• Ability to analyse and understand existing Excel-based reporting logic 
• Experience working with Excel reports containing macros or VBA 
• Ability to translate Excel-based calculations into scalable BI or SQL models

Practical experience expected:

Candidates should demonstrate experience with: 

• Rebuilding or simplifying complex Excel-based reporting logic 
• Reverse engineering spreadsheet-based reporting processes 
• Designing clean semantic layers for BI reporting 
• Optimising SQL queries and improving reporting performance 
• Working directly with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements
• Documenting data models, metric definitions and reporting logic 
• Delivering reporting improvements in iterative phases 

Nice to have:

• Experience working with Excel VBA or macros 
• Experience with Azure data services (ADF, Databricks, Synapse or Fabric) Python or PySpark experience 
• Experience working with APIs and external data feeds 
• Exposure to hospitality, retail or finance reporting environments 

Soft skills:

• Ability to assess legacy reporting environments pragmatically 
• Strong communication skills with non-technical stakeholders 
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to business users 
• Structured and organised approach to problem solving 
• Comfortable running discovery sessions and working collaboratively with clients

Scope of responsibilities:

• Assess existing reporting environments (SQL, Excel, Power BI)
• Identify performance bottlenecks and data modelling issues
• Design improved reporting data models and semantic layers
• Build and optimise Power BI dashboards and datasets
• Document architecture, metric definitions and reporting logic
• Work with client stakeholders to prioritise reporting improvements
• Provide best practice guidance and contribute to data platform design

Other Details:

• Working Days: Monday - Thursday (Onsite) - Friday WFH
• Work Timings: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM UK Timings
  (12:00 PM to 9:00 PM PKT in Summer & 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM PKT in Winter)
• Work Mode: Karachi - Hybrid
• Location: Tariq Road, Delhi Society - Karachi
• Experience: 2 years or above
