The multidisciplinary Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) strives to deliver high-quality undergraduate and graduate education cutting across and integrating the disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. The department is also committed to conducting impactful biomedical research on both communicable and non-communicable disorders, designed to improve the health and wellbeing of communities at large.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

• Teaching two undergraduate courses per academic year that advance the Environmental Studies curriculum, such as Biostatistics and Quantitative Methods, Bioinformatics, or other courses aligned with the faculty member’s expertise.
• Providing intellectual and curricular leadership in the development, planning, and delivery of the biology component of the Environmental Studies major, working closely with the program director.
• Advising and mentoring undergraduate students, particularly those pursuing senior research capstones, with attention to research design, analysis, and dissemination.
• Contributing to faculty-led research initiatives in Environmental Studies and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
• Taking initiative in shaping future graduate-level programs in Environmental Studies, ensuring alignment with global best practices and institutional priorities.
• Participating in ongoing curriculum review and planning to ensure that Environmental Studies programs remain innovative, rigorous, and impactful.
• Contributing to graduate-level (MPhil and PhD) teaching as well as departmental research priorities in BBS, with an emphasis on strengthening the department’s expertise in bioinformatics.
• Leading or contributing to projects in genomics, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and related areas.
• Conducting research clinics in bioinformatics and providing training as needed.

Requirements:

You should have:

• A PhD or equivalent in the relevant field and at least two years of postdoctoral experience.
• The capacity for quality teaching across programmatic levels and an ability to supervise graduate students
• Expertise in grant writing and securing extramural funding
• Scholarship in a defined area of focus as evidenced by peer-reviewed high-quality publications, presentations at national and international fora, change in practice or policy and/or other forms of dissemination.
• Candidates who demonstrate strengths in bioinformatics in conjunction with environmental sciences will be preferred.
