What will you do?


We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented Technical Writer to support our Mechanical & Electrical Engineering department delivering engineered systems such as Hydraulic Power Units (HPU), Fire Suppression systems (CAFS & INERT), and Chemical Injection Packages. The primary responsibility of this role is the creation, coordination, and control of project engineering documentation across the full project lifecycle. The role involves close collaboration with engineers, project managers, CAD, quality, and production teams to ensure all technical documentation is accurate, compliant, consistent, and issued in line with contractual and project requirements.                    


KEY RESULT AREAS: 


Documentation Creation:


  • Develop, prepare, and format engineering and project documentation, including but not limited to:
  • Technical specifications
  • Design descriptions
  • Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
  • Test Procedures and Reports (FAT, SAT)
  • Operating & Maintenance Manuals (IOMs)
  • Data Books and Manufacturing Records
  • Translate complex engineering information into clear, structured, and user‑friendly documentation.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with customer, regulatory, and project requirements.
  • Create strong documentation templates.

Document Control & Coordination:


  • Maintain effective document control processes for all engineering documentation.
  • Manage document numbering, revision control, distribution, and archiving.
  • Coordinate document reviews, approvals, and comments between internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Ensure timely issue of documents in line with project schedules and contractual deliverables.
  • Maintain document registers and provide status reporting to project and engineering teams.

Engineering Support:


  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation engineers to gather technical inputs.
  • Support engineers by standardising document templates, layouts, and structures.
  • Assist with incorporation of engineering calculations, drawings, and vendor data into project documentation.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment across all documentation packages.

Compliance & Quality:


  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with applicable industry standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Support audits and reviews by ensuring complete, traceable, and well‑structured documentation.
  • Promote standardisation and continuous improvement of documentation processes.

Collaboration and Communication


  • Liaise with Project Managers to understand documentation requirements and priorities.
  • Interface with customers and third parties on documentation‐related queries, where required.
  • Work closely with Quality, Procurement, and Production teams to support documentation deliverables.

Continuous Improvement


  • Support development and updating of standard templates, document guides, and best practices.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to improvements in documentation workflows and efficiency.
  • Support digitalisation and structured document management initiatives.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:


ESSENTIAL: 


  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer or Documentation Specialist in an engineering environment.
  • Experience working with Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation structures and lifecycle.
  • Excellent written English with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and document formatting tools.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple documents and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

DESIRABLE:


  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in oil & gas, energy, or process engineering industries.
  • Familiarity with systems such as HPU, fire suppression systems, or packaged equipment.
  • Experience working with document management systems (DMS).
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings (GA, P&ID).
