Middleware – API Management & Messaging Integration Engineer

Role Summary



The API Management & Messaging Integration Engineer is responsible for the administration, stability, automation, and operational support of enterprise integration platforms, including IBM API Connect (APIC), RedHat AMQ, and HiveMQ. This role ensures secure, highly available, scalable, and resilient API and messaging services across multi‑data center environments. Responsibilities include platform design support, installation, configuration, patching, performance tuning, monitoring, certificate management, business continuity planning, and 24×7 operational support. The role works closely with application, architecture, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver reliable integration services aligned to enterprise standards and service level agreements.



IBM API Connect (APIC) – Responsibilities
  • Perform systems analysis and support the design of enterprise API hosting architectures.
  • Design and implement moderate to highly complex API hosting solutions using IBM API Connect.
  • Implement moderate to complex platform changes in accordance with documented requirements and change processes.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance, patching, upgrades, and operational support of API Connect environments.
  • Design, document, and maintain API platform business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Manage capacity trending, rightsizing recommendations, workload optimization policies, and alerting using DataPower Operational Dashboard (DPOD).
  • Provide proactive monitoring and alerting using OpsView Monitoring.
  • Assist in managing operational tasks and project deliverables to ensure SLA compliance.
  • Respond to support requests and incidents, enabling timely resolution or escalation within defined SLAs.
  • Perform problem analysis and root cause investigations to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide 24×7×365 production support for API management platforms.
  • Support emerging API technologies, governance models, and platform enhancements.
IBM API Connect (APIC) – Technical Skills
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade IBM API Connect infrastructure.
  • Maintain and support API Connect components including Management, Gateway, Analytics, and Developer Portal.
  • Administer IBM API Connect platforms on Linux / Ubuntu.
  • Strong understanding of API hosting patterns, catalogs, and API lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of API security including TLS encryption, certificates, and access controls.
  • Experience with platform performance tuning and capacity optimization.
  • Automation experience using Ansible and scripting languages such as Python and Shell.
  • Familiarity with automation and development tools including CP‑Ansible, C#, and shell scripting.
RedHat AMQ & HiveMQ – Responsibilities
  • Manage high‑performance messaging and integration solutions utilizing RedHat AMQ and HiveMQ.
  • Install and configure RedHat AMQ brokers on RHEL 9 Linux servers.
  • Install and configure HiveMQ brokers on RHEL 9 Linux and Windows Server platforms.
  • Perform AMQ and HiveMQ patching, upgrades, and maintenance using Ansible automation.
  • Provide 24×7 hotline and on‑call support, including weekends and holidays.
  • Support broker testing, validation, and troubleshooting in collaboration with application teams.
  • Monitor messaging environment performance and perform tuning for optimal throughput and reliability.
  • Create and maintain application‑specific Grafana dashboards for messaging telemetry.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and architecture teams.
  • Independently execute special assignments and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Address and remediate security vulnerabilities associated with vendor messaging products.
  • Manage SSL/TLS certificates and ensure timely renewal prior to expiry.
  • Maintain and support custom Java/MySQL‑based broker alerting solutions.
RedHat AMQ & HiveMQ – Qualifications and Core Skills
  • Hands‑on experience administering RedHat AMQ 7 (Artemis).
  • Hands‑on experience administering HiveMQ and supporting IoT messaging use cases.
  • Moderate understanding of RedHat Linux system administration and command‑line utilities.
  • Basic Windows and Windows Server administration skills.
  • Experience designing and maintaining Grafana dashboards.
  • Experience working with MySQL databases and tables.
  • Experience executing and maintaining Ansible playbooks.
  • Basic experience building automation solutions using scripting or configuration management tools.
  • Core skills include AMQ administration, HiveMQ administration, Linux scripting, Ansible automation, Java, Jython, and MySQL.
