Hello Talented Techie! To begin the biggest challenges of our time, we need inquisitive minds with the ambition to make the impossible possible. Siemens is your place to thrive, challenge the status quo, make a difference, and grow in a team of innovators who share your passion for tech. Are you in? We are looking for a Research Engineer - Applied R&D for GenAI & Physical AI Are you passionate about growing your Generative AI or Physical AI skills? We are looking for an energetic and talented engineer to join our R&D team in Bangalore, which is part of the Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence Research group headquarters in Munich. We are a passionate global team of researchers, data scientists and architects, striving to tackle sophisticated problems in various domains ranging from mobility, industry, energy, and buildings to smart cities by applying methods and principles of data analytics and artificial intelligence. We are looking for equally passionate techies to join us in this exciting journey of finding innovative solutions to some non-trivial industrial problems. We don’t need superheroes, just super minds with a positive demeanour. Role Overview We are looking for a Research Engineer to work at the intersection of applied research, rapid prototyping, and system design. You will focus on building tools, abstractions, and platforms that accelerate research across teams. This role emphasizes system-level thinking – combining deep software engineering, intelligent models, and experimental workflows – to validate research ideas quickly and evolve them into reusable, extensible solutions for real world use cases. It is a research-oriented engineering role. The emphasis shifts based on project needs, with success measured by the ability to prototype quickly, learn deeply, and generalize patterns for reuse. You’ll create impact by: · Design and prototype research platforms and tools, spanning user interfaces, backend services, and AI components, to enable rapid experimentation, comparison, and evaluation of AI models, workflows, and approaches. · Build and evolve experimentation infrastructure supporting modern AI workflows, including data ingestion, interaction, evaluation, and feedback loops. · Experiment with, evaluate, and integrate language, multi-modal, and action oriented AI components as part of applied research systems, adapting depth based on project needs. · Apply system level AI patterns such as retrieval augmented setups, agent based workflows, multi-modal pipelines, or perception to action loops, where relevant. · Contribute to embodied or physical world AI research, including perception to action pipelines, simulation backed experimentation, or robotics adjacent work, as appropriate. · Identify reusable components, abstractions, and design patterns across projects and evolve them into shared internal capabilities. · Design and run experiments, benchmarks, and analyses to understand system behavior, limitations, and trade offs. · Collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and domain authorities to translate ideas into working prototypes while aligning research goals with practical system constraints. · Document learnings, system designs, and architectural insights to support knowledge sharing and internal adoption. · Stay updated with state-of-the art research, tools, and best practices in the relevant domains. You’d describe yourself as: · Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, AI/ML, Robotics, or a related field. · Strong programming proficiency in Python and at least one additional language (e.g., C++, Java, TypeScript, Go). · Hands-on experience building backend services and APIs (e.g., FastAPI) and frontend/web applications (e.g., Angular, React) as part of end-to-end AI systems. · Strong expertise in software engineering principles, system architecture, and data structures, with hands on experience building, deploying, and maintaining real world software systems (beyond notebook prototypes), including modular, service oriented and distributed architecture. · Hands on experience developing GenAI applications, including LLM based systems, agentic workflows, multimodal pipelines, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures integrating vector databases and/or Knowledge Graphs, using orchestration and agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, or similar tools. · Practical experience with AI evaluation, experimentation, observability and related tooling (Promptfoo, Langfuse, Arize Phoenix or similar tools) to benchmark system behavior, analyze failure modes, and reason about accuracy, latency, and cost tradeoffs. · Ability to work optimally in ambiguous, research driven environments and communicate technical ideas clearly. Preferred Qualifications · Experience with Vision Language Action (VLA) systems, robotics middleware (e.g., ROS), or simulation environments (e.g., Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, Habitat). · amiliarity with AIOps and cloud infrastructure, including AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, and deploying AI solutions or services via REST or gRPC APIs. · Contributions to technical reports, open source projects, or patents. What We Value in This Role · Ability to think in systems and abstractions, not just single solutions · Strong bias toward fast iteration, learning, and reuse · Ability to bridge research intent and engineering execution · Curiosity, experimentation, and willingness to work across domains · Clear communication and collaborative perspective Impact · Enable faster idea exploration and validation across AI research initiatives · Provide shared platforms and tools that raise the productivity of internal teams · Capture reusable patterns that reduce redundancy and improve research velocity · Contributions to strategic R&D innovation pipelines, publications, or patents Join us and be a part of a team that is shaping the future of industrial automation and business intelligence through Generative AI innovations! Make your mark in our exciting world at Siemens. Join Siemens: At Siemens, we value diversity, creativity, and curiosity.
