Principal QA EngineerAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Principal QA Engineer to lead and influence quality assurance practices for complex, cross-functional projects. In this role, you’ll combine deep technical expertise with strong collaboration skills to drive operational excellence, tooling strategy, and innovative QA solutions across the organization.
Common Accountabilities

• Apply advanced technical knowledge to support teams in achieving quality outcomes; provide guidance, mentorship, and training when needed.
• Understand how business drivers impact the QA function, and provide solutions that improve processes, mitigate risks, and solve complex challenges.
• Operate independently while aligning with management direction; lead or contribute to strategic and cross-functional initiatives, including resource and budget planning.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to stakeholders.

Specific Accountabilities

Operational Excellence

• Apply and advocate advanced QA methodologies across projects and products.
• Design, execute, and maintain test standards and procedures for complex or cross-functional solutions.
• Investigate root causes of defects and propose corrective actions.
• Leverage QA tools, environments, and automation frameworks to enable reliability and scalability.

Functional Excellence

• Maintain strong domain knowledge of products, related business processes, and customer needs.
• Facilitate customer triage sessions and support teams in reproducing and resolving issues effectively.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

• Participate in (and lead) internal and external discussions on QA methodologies, tooling, and frameworks.
• Promote sustainable quality practices and contribute to patents, technical events, and QA community initiatives.
• Define and track quality KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for compliance and product integrity.
• Drive the selection, standardization, and adoption of QA tools while encouraging innovation and avoiding duplication.
• Support sustainability by helping to measure and reduce the environmental impact of QA activities.

Relationship Building and Knowledge Sharing

• Mentor team members across levels to develop their QA skills and professional growth.
• Play an active role in onboarding and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Collaborate with teams on test automation, tool usage, and QA process improvements.
• Engage with Principal QA Engineer communities to exchange best practices.

Key Responsibilities for QA Tooling and Automation

• Serve as tool owner/co-owner for strategic QA tools, including automation frameworks, test management, and reporting dashboards.
• Drive the standardization, rationalization, and adoption of QA tools across teams.
• Enable scalable automation solutions (UI, API, integration testing) through well-structured frameworks.
• Integrate QA tools seamlessly into CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) pipelines and engineering platforms.
• Support cloud-native testing and collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams for platform-level quality.
• Explore and implement AI-assisted QA capabilities such as intelligent test generation and failure analysis.
• Act as a technical coach, ensuring effective use of frameworks and tools across teams.
• Define and monitor tooling KPIs—adoption, stability, coverage, and return on investment (ROI).
• Create containerized environments (Docker images, Kubernetes) to support automated test execution at scale.

Required Skills & ExperienceTechnical and Quality Engineering Skills

• Deep expertise in QA automation frameworks and testing tools for UI and API testing.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in pipeline scripting, and experience developing Docker images and Kubernetes-based pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of test management, reporting, and quality metrics tools.
• Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Robot Framework, Python, Playwright, or similar).
• Experience with cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure) and modern engineering platforms.
• Ability to design and maintain QA tooling and dashboards to enhance visibility.

Leadership and Influence

• Proven experience operating at a senior or principal QA engineering level.
• Ability to define and advocate quality engineering best practices across multiple teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-team influence.
• Skilled at fostering alignment without direct authority through expertise and credibility.
