Manager III, Data Engineering, India Stores Tech

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead data engineering and analytics for India business verticals: Payments, Finance, Delivery Experience (DEX), and other orgs. This is a vertical-focused leadership role where you'll own end-to-end data solutions for each business area while leveraging shared platform capabilities. You'll manage a team of data engineers delivering regulatory compliance, real-time operational insights, and measurable business impact across data infrastructure, analytics, availability, quality and data compliance.
Key Job Responsibilities:
1. Platform Leadership & Strategy
* Lead development and operation of unified data infrastructure serving 100+ business teams with 20K+ datasets and millions of monthly queries
* Drive platform modernization using cloud-native technologies, data lakehouse architectures, and AI/ML integration
* Maintain cost efficiency while supporting double-digit annual growth in compute demand through intelligent optimization and waste reduction
* Partner with business stakeholders to identify data-driven opportunities and translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
* Lead development of next-generation analytics platforms with natural language interfaces and causal inference capabilities
* Enable self-service analytics reducing dependency on data engineering teams by 70%+
* Drive adoption of GenAI technologies for automated insights, root cause analysis, and predictive analytics
2. Compliance & Governance
* Establish and scale data governance frameworks addressing privacy regulations, access controls, and audit requirements
* Implement automated policy enforcement across hundreds of datasets with ML-based validation
* Build data segregation and classification systems ensuring regulatory compliance
* Deploy self-service tooling for access management and anomaly detection
3. Operational Excellence
* Reduce operational overhead through automation, improved tooling, and proactive monitoring
* Achieve significant reductions in error rates, resolution times, and infrastructure risks
* Maintain high service quality with minimal SLA violations while scaling platform capabilities
* Drive continuous improvement in code quality, testing coverage, and deployment automation
4. Business Impact Delivery
* Launch analytics solutions generating measurable business value through improved decision-making
* Build dashboards and insights platforms enabling data-driven optimization across business functions
* Support product launches and operational requirements with robust data infrastructure
* Enable real-time and near-real-time reporting for critical business metrics
Requirement:
* 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform development, or related technical roles
* 3+ years of experience managing data engineering or business intelligence teams
* Strong expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT pipeline design
* Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala, or similar)
* Demonstrated experience in data/BI strategy development and execution
* Proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining technical talent
* Experience with cloud data platforms and distributed computing technologies

About the team
Team & Impact
You'll lead a team of approximately 20 engineers working across multiple strategic initiatives including platform infrastructure, AI-powered analytics, compliance automation, and business-specific solutions. Your work will directly enable data-driven decision-making across the organization while maintaining the highest standards for security, privacy, and operational excellence.

- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with SQL
- Experience managing a data or BI team
- Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Experience hiring, developing and promoting engineering talent
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)
