Inviting applications for the role of Manager/Assistant Manager, Payroll Operations, (Austria) | High Complexity | Governance & Compliance Owner)
Role Purpose
This role is essential in owning end-to-end payroll governance, statutory compliance, stakeholder management, and transformation while ensuring zero-defect payroll delivery.
Responsibilities
1. Payroll Governance
• Validate completeness of payroll records, Tax and social insurance postings
• Ensure compliance of closing processes with Austrian labour law, collective bargaining rules and DPA/GDPR obligations.
• Drive initiatives to enhance Payroll process accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
• Own monthly payroll closing sign-off
• Oversee escalations and provide resolutions for complex process issues.
2. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance (Austria)
• Review heavy labour reporting, Accruals, provisions, liabilities Severance and pension outputs
• Champion DPA/GDPR compliance across payroll systems and processes and approve privacy impact assessments.
3. Risk & Control Framework
• Own payroll controls i.e. Payroll control reports validation, Exception management (unpaid leave, incorrect taxation).
• Drive continuous control automation and embed DPA evidence requirements into control documentation.
• Lead periodic internal reviews, audits, and risk assessments for Payroll processes
4. Team Leadership & Capability Building
• Manage team structure (Associate → Sr. Associate)
• Allocate work based on complexity and risk
• Build expertise in Austria payroll laws & systems
• Foster a compliance‑first culture and ensure the team has the skills to manage Austrian statutory complexity and DPA/GDPR obligations.
Systems Ownership
Preferred to have: - ServiceNow, Workday, BMD; HR‑Suite; Assignment Management Tool (AMT); Global Advantage; SAP Concur; ARIBA; Docusign; TMI; Excel; Power BI / Tableau; Outlook MS Teams; SharePoint.
Qualifications we seek in you!
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in HR Business or Payroll Operations (MBA preferred).
• Strong statutory + audit + transformation exposure
• Expertise in Payroll, reporting, Data accuracy, and process automation.
• Familiarity with HCM tool – SuccessFactors, Workdays, Oracle Fusion will be an added advantage
• Strong preference for candidates with European experience.
• Willingness to work 5 days from office in client specific shift.
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
• Proven experience in managing large-scale operations and leading cross-functional teams.
• Certifications in leadership, Payroll management, or project management.
• Familiarity with Human Resource Management System platforms, Ticketing tools
(ServiceNow, Zendesk) and European statutory payroll requirements
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical abilities.
• Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
• Knowledge of state regulations (for example, bargaining agreements or unionized agreements).
• Good understanding of local labor laws and cultural expectations.
• Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
