Role Purpose
The post holder supports the British Council’s global English strategy by delivering high‑quality, platform‑agnostic English language teaching that consistently meets the highest ELT standards. Through professional excellence and reflective practice, the role enhances the British Council’s reputation as a world authority in English language teaching. The role holder is expected to engage actively in continued professional development, share best practice with colleagues, and work collaboratively to ensure teaching quality improves year on year in line with organisational expectations.
The role is accountable for planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and effective English language lessons that respond to diverse learner needs, learning styles, and expectations. This includes monitoring student progress, providing regular and constructive feedback, promoting learner autonomy, and completing all teaching‑related administrative tasks to agreed standards. The role also contributes to the ongoing development, evaluation, and improvement of courses, materials, and services, working as an active member of the teaching team to ensure a consistently high learner experience.
In addition, the role supports the wider work of the teaching centre and the British Council by maintaining positive relationships with students, customers, and colleagues, and by contributing to local marketing, promotional activities, and excellent customer service. The role holder helps build lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing learners’ understanding of contemporary UK culture, while ensuring safeguarding, child protection, equality, diversity, and health and safety policies are fully applied and upheld at all times.
