About Velsera Medicine moves too slow.
At Velsera, we are changing that.
Velsera was formed in 2023 through the shared vision of Seven Bridges and Pierian, with a mission to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of life-changing insights.
Velsera provides software and professional services for: AI-powered multimodal data harmonization and analytics for drug discovery and development IVD development, validation, and regulatory approval Clinical NGS interpretation, reporting, and adoption With our headquarters in Boston, MA, we are growing and expanding our teams located in different countries!
Role Overview The Director, DevOps & Cloud Platforms owns the reliability, scalability, and operational maturity of Velsera’s cloud platforms and delivery pipelines supporting SBP, CGW, and FastFinder.
Reporting to the CTO, this leader builds and runs a global DevOps / Cloud Engineering team responsible for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, environment management, and shared platform operations in regulated contexts (e.
g., HIPAA, GxP, FedRAMP, 21 CFR Part 11).
You will standardize and harden DevOps and cloud practices, reduce operational risk, and enable teams to ship safely and predictably with clinical reliability, data integrity, security, and compliance as non‑negotiables.
What will you do?
DevOps & Cloud Platform Strategy Own the DevOps/cloud platform lifecycle: IaC (CloudFormation and Terraform), environment provisioning, CI/CD, and day‑2 operations across AWS/Azure/GCP.
Define and communicate a multi‑year vision aligned to product/platform needs, including standards for networking, identity management, and observability.
Operate as an internal platform focused on developer experience—reduce tickets via self‑service, automation, and clear patterns.
Cloud Infrastructure & Environment Management Own shared cloud foundations: network design, IAM, security boundaries, secrets, backup/DR across AWS/Azure/GCP.
Standardize Infrastructure as Code and environment blueprints (dev/stage/prod; regulated vs.
non‑regulated) for repeatability and fast recovery.
Ensure tenant isolation and data boundary enforcement (e.
g., EU‑resident constraints, federal boundary considerations).
Serve as the primary infrastructure stakeholder on the Architecture Review Board to ensure all system designs are scalable, resilient, and aligned with DevOps best practices.
CI/CD, Release, and Change Management Set CI/CD standards and reusable templates (with quality gates and security scanning) across the enterprise toolchain.
Embed release governance for regulated products: versioning, approvals, traceability, and change control aligned to key standards.
Partner with Quality/Regulatory to ensure DHF, validation evidence, and audit trails are supported by DevOps tooling (not manual workarounds).
Observability & SRE Practices Ensure high‑quality observability (logs/metrics/traces) and actionable dashboards across platforms.
Establish SLOs, incident playbooks, and on‑call rotations; lead coordinated incident response for shared infrastructure and tooling.
Run blameless post‑incident reviews and continuous improvement to reduce MTTR, change failure rate, and alert fatigue (including selective automation).
Compliance, Risk, and Boundary Management Align DevOps/cloud practices to Velsera’s QMS and applicable regulations in partnership with Quality/Regulatory and Security.
Define and enforce cloud/data boundaries for HIPAA‑covered workloads, EU‑resident data, and federal‑sensitive work where applicable.
Automation, Tooling, and Developer Experience Drive automation‑first patterns (e.
g., GitOps, policy‑as‑code, self‑service provisioning).
Partner with AI Platform/DevEx to apply AI‑assisted operations where appropriate and compliant (triage, summarization, automation).
Own the DevOps toolchain strategy (build/deploy, artifacts, containers, secrets), favoring consolidation and cross‑product consistency.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management Lead and develop a global team of cloud engineers, SREs, and platform DevOps engineers; hire, mentor, and build succession.
Establish governance and decision rights across Engineering, Product, Security, and Quality (capacity, release readiness, risk review).
Advise leaders with clear options and trade‑offs; balance speed, cost, reliability, and compliance.
