Who will you be working with?

This role is an integral part of the Wabtec IT Data & Analytics (DnA) Team. As an AI Engineer, you will be a key member of the AA/AI Development team, working closely with the Wabtec IT DnA team and business stakeholders to design, build, deploy, and operate Advanced Analytics and AI solutions end-to-end.

How will you make a difference?

We are seeking a collaborative and highly motivated AI Engineer to strengthen our ability to deliver production-grade AA & GenAI solutions. As a member of the Wabtec IT Data & Analytics (DnA) Team, you will be responsible for:

• Participate in all stages of agile / scrum to design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI/GenAI and full-stack services (prototypes to production), integrated with enterprise applications and data platforms.
• Partner with the TPM and cross-functional teams (Data Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Product) to translate requirements into well-architected, maintainable solutions.
• Build AI-based solutions for prioritized use cases, including RAG applications, document understanding, NLP based on business requirements.
• Own delivery for AI engineering workstreams (design to release), ensuring solutions meet non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, cost, and security) and timelines.
• Develop and maintain production APIs and services for AI/GenAI use cases; build backend components using Node.js/NestJS and Python/FastAPI; package solutions for repeatability (containers, infrastructure-as-code, and reusable libraries) and enable self-service adoption.
• Build end-to-end full stack features, including web UIs in Angular, backend APIs in NestJS/Node.js and FastAPI, and integration with enterprise authentication/authorization and logging/monitoring standards.
• Design data interfaces and pipelines with Data Engineering; prompt/context pipelines, and evaluation datasets to support training and inference.
• Implement LLMOps/AIOps practices: CI/CD, artifact/version management, automated testing, deployment strategies, monitoring/observability, cost controls, and incident response runbooks.
• Research and experiment with new AI tools, frameworks, and techniques (e.g., prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and evaluation frameworks) and contribute patterns/standards for enterprise reuse.

The minimum qualifications for this role include:

• B.Tech or M.Tech  in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or Engineering from an accredited college or university
• 2+ years of experience building and deploying production software services using Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, including integration with enterprise systems.
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering, API design, and cloud-native development, with the ability to translate prototypes into scalable services.
• Hands-on experience delivering end-to-end applications: front-end development, backend services, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and production monitoring/observability.
• Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript; experience building web applications with Angular and backend services with Node.js/NestJS and FastAPI; experience building REST APIs, including testing, documentation, versioning, and performance considerations.
• Good understanding or hands-on experience with AWS GenAI services, including AWS Bedrock (foundation models, agents/knowledge bases as applicable), and related services used in enterprise solutions.
• Strong experience with advanced SQL; good to have experience with PySpark and distributed data processing patterns.
• Experience operating on AWS (or another cloud) with production engineering practices: CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Good to have experience with Dataiku (optional) or similar enterprise DS/ML platforms.
• Exposure to Industrial engineering domain is preferred

What will your typical day look like?

• Collaborate daily with D&A- AA & AI scrum team and interact often with Architecture team for reviews and technical recommendations.
• Engage with internal stakeholders and the DNA team to understand business needs, provide project updates, and align AI initiatives with deliverables
• Work closely with business stakeholders and the DS Manager to define project goals and success criteria for the assigned project(s)
• Design, develop, and deploy AI & Generative AI services on the AWS Data Lake / enterprise platform, ensuring secure access patterns and scalable runtime architecture.
• Conduct data preprocessing and analysis as needed for AI/GenAI solutions; build and iterate on application features (Angular UI, NestJS/Node.js and FastAPI services), and optimize implementations for cost-effective, high-performance solutions.
• Implement and operate CI/CD and automated testing for AI components; monitor service health, latency, and cost, and continuously improve reliability.
• Explore data trends, identify insights, and integrate AI-powered solutions into business workflows; drive adoption through documentation, enablement, and continuous iteration based on feedback.
