The Team: The Global Indirect Tax EMEA team at Alvarez & Marsal GCC serves as an integral extension of the firm’s global tax practice, with a primary focus on supporting clients across the EMEA and Middle East region. Operating from the Global Capability Center in India, the team is closely aligned with onshore counterparts and plays a key role in delivering end-to-end indirect tax support, including VAT advisory, compliance, and reporting.
The team is actively involved in managing complex cross-border transactions, ensuring accurate and timely filings, and assisting with technical analysis across multiple jurisdictions. By working on diverse engagements spanning various industries and countries, team members gain significant exposure to differing regulatory frameworks, evolving VAT requirements, and international best practices.
With a strong emphasis on collaboration, quality, and efficiency, the team operates in a highly integrated global environment, enabling seamless coordination with stakeholders and providing scalable support to meet the dynamic needs of the EMEA practice.
How you will contribute- Assist in managing a portfolio of global clients with multi-country VAT compliance obligations, primarily across the EMEA region, by supporting data collection, validation, and preparation activities.
- Prepare Indirect tax returns, including VAT/GST filings and related returns (Intrastat, EC sales, etc), ensuring accuracy and adherence to jurisdiction-specific requirements under supervision.
- Compile and organise data for compliance deliverables, ensuring outputs are clear, complete, and aligned with client expectations and internal quality standards.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary and cross-border team, supporting the execution of tasks in line with defined work plans, timelines, and project objectives.
- Participate in internal and client calls to understand requirements and take notes, with guidance on applying indirect tax concepts to practical scenarios.
- Develop a foundational understanding of client business models and transaction flows to support accurate VAT treatment and reporting.
- Support senior team members in identifying discrepancies, resolving data queries, and addressing routine compliance-related issues.
- Build working relationships within the Indirect Tax team and across the wider Alvarez & Marsal network to enable effective collaboration.
- Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment by actively engaging in team discussions and knowledge sharing.
- Assist in the preparation of business development materials, including basic research, data gathering, and formatting of proposals and supporting documents.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; an MBA in Finance would be an added advantage.
- Pursuing or holding a tax qualification (e.g., CA Inter, ACCA part-qualified) is beneficial but not mandatory.
- 1–3 years of experience in the preparation of EMEA indirect tax/VAT returns.
- Practical experience with tax engines such as OneSource, Vertex, Avalara, or similar tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information in a clear and structured manner.
- Strong organisational capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented and analytical, with a systematic approach to reviewing and handling data.
