Role Description (Discipline General)
The Layout & Piping Engineer is responsible for the physical arrangement and design of equipment and piping systems within the processing areas of refinery, renewable fuel production facilities and petrochemicals related to investment project execution. The Engineer's involvement starts from the study phase where they are responsible for development of efficient Plot Plans for the site. Unit layouts and pipe routing plans, prepared in the definition phase, will set the foundation for subsequent plant 3D modeling that is implemented and governed in the Smartplant 3D environment. Layout and Piping Engineering has a central role in translating the Process Flow Diagrams and P&IDs into a safe, constructible and operable physical plant geometry. In the definition phase, the engineer focuses on finalizing equipment arrangements, ensuring spatial compliance with all standards and safety requirements, and establishing efficient plant internal logistics. The development of the plant 3D model for main process piping takes place in the definition phase and continues with detailed engineering in the execution. The design team prepares relevant Material Take-Offs (MTOs), job descriptions, purchase requisitions and all fabrication documentation such as isometric drawings and Tie in packages. The team is also responsible for managing stress analysis.
Description of tasks (Discipline General)
• Study/Concept: Plot Plan, Pipe routing study, definitions and map for Tie in’s, Basis of Design, preliminary MTOs and initial data for Civil engineering
• Definition/Basic: Unit Layouts, Piping arrangement drawings, 3D model (30%), component lists, Tie in’s Map, estimation of insulation and fire protection materials, updated study phase information, design reviews
• Execution/Detailed: Complete 3D model with all materials, components and features, job descriptions, MTOs for procurement, piping fabrication documentation such as isometric drawings and component lists, Insulation list and drawings, final initial data for Civil engineering, complete Tie in package, Stress analysis, design reviews, As Built documentation and data handover
